First time renter? Here are some tips just for you!

    • Measure space at the work site before you call so you know you have enough space for the dumpster size you reserve.
    • Check out our sizing chart to help you pick the right size dumpster for your project, so you are not getting one too small or too large for what you need.
    • Clear off a hard, flat surface, such as concrete, beforehand, so our workers have a place to set the roll-off dumpster.
    • Keep an eye on that fill line so you do not overstuff your dumpster or exceed its weight limit.
    • Distribute weight inside the dumpster evenly by walking debris in through the door or tossing it over the side. If possible, put lighter trash underneath heavy debris so it does not fly away in route.

GOOD TO KNOW INFORMATION

Delivery

Roll-off dumpsters can be reserved in as little as a one-day notice. Our workers will deliver your reserved roll-off dumpster to the agreed upon location at the agreed upon time and date. Once placed, it is ready to go!

You do not need to be present on delivery day, but we can give you a call once we have placed your product.

You will need to have the space cleared on a hard flat surface that the roll-off dumpster will be placed on. Our workers cannot unload it unless space has been cleared off.

Opening Up Your Dumpster

You reserved your rental. Now, let’s make sure you know how to operate it.

Opening a dumpster is simple once you know what you are doing. Roll-off dumpsters typically have one of two style locks, which open a slightly different way depending on which one it is.

The roll-off dumpsters used by Sunflower Dumpster Rental have a lever style lock on it. To open them, first you must remove the safety chain by unhooking the latch safety pin. Then, you must raise the lever and open the door. Last, you must use the safety chain to secure the door by attaching it to the other side of the roll-off dumpster.

Other companies may use a ratchet style lock for its roll-off dumpsters. To open this kind, you need to unhook the safety chain first and then flip the ratchet’s switch. Next, you need to loosen the ratchet and detach the chain. Last, you need to pull the door open and secure it to the side of the roll-off using the safety chain.

Things to be wary of

Filled dumpsters can contain dangerous construction materials, so it only makes sense that dumpsters themselves should be considered dangerous and those using it should be wary of reckless behavior around it.

Never allow children or pets to play around a dumpster because they might get curious and accidentally fall into it, possibly injuring themselves.

Workers should take caution themselves by never attempting to climb onto the dumpster. Instead, they should walk debris in through the door or simply throw it over the side.

Construction

Dumpsters are available in four different sizes to cover a wide variety of construction project needs. They are made of high-quality steel that is durable enough to hold various construction materials, such as heavy industrial waste, bricks, gravel and wood.

Measuring Your Work Site

Do not forget to measure your worksite before you reserve your roll-off dumpster. Make sure you have a big enough space for the footprint of the 15-yard, 20-yard, or 30-yard roll-off, depending on which you have reserved. For the 40-yard roll-off, you will need to clear off twice the length of the dumpster because of the way workers roll the product off the truck. The area in front of where the product will be placed needs to be cleared off.

The 15-yard and 20-yard roll-offs have footprints measuring 14 feet by 8 feet. The 30-yard and 40-yard roll-offs have footprints measuring 21 feet by 8 feet.

Rules When Renting Dumpsters

Do not attempt to move the roll-of dumpster once it is placed. Doing so will result in added fees being accrued. If something happens and the product needs to be moved, then, just give us a call and we will send someone out to help.

Hazardous, flammable, and bulky items are prohibited from being thrown into the roll-off dumpster. Doing so will result in added fees being accrued.

Never overfill the dumpster past its brim. Keep an eye on the fill line as the dumpster is getting full and give us a call as it is approaching that line. We will send someone out to swap it with an empty roll-off dumpster as soon as we can. Exceeding the weight limit can result in an additional fee.

Not all debris can be safely disposed of with other types of debris or trash. Bulky or hazardous items cannot be thrown away in a roll-off dumpster with the rest of the construction trash, so the following items are prohibited from being thrown into the dumpster and will result in an additional disposal fee being applied: tires, liquid paint, aerosol and paint cans, fluorescent lights, propane tanks, medical waste and animal parts, mattresses and box springs, electronics and televisions, explosives and flammable items, pesticides and herbicides, anti-freeze, car fluids, oils and gasoline, and batteries.

Residential

No one wants to deal with the hassle of making numerous trips back and forth to the landfill from the worksite. Let us handle disposing your residential project’s construction waste for you.

Our roll-off dumpsters can contain waste from a variety of residential projects, such as home remodeling, landscaping, floor or wall renovations, bathroom/ kitchen repair, and roofing. Just toss all that debris into the roll-off dumpster you have rented from us, and then once full, let us know, and we will swap it out with an empty roll-off, bringing the full one to the proper waste removal facility to be emptied.

FAQs

How do I know what size dumpster I need?

Picking the right size dumpster is easy. You just need to consider which project you are doing and how much flat, available space you have on the worksite.

Is there anything I cannot put in the dumpster?

Yes! Do not put hazardous or bulky items in roll-off dumpsters with the rest of your construction debris. That must be disposed of separately.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?

Dumpster cost depends on location, size, and length of time you will need it. Our prices for products include the product, delivery, pick-up, disposal, and servicing or swapping. Added fees only come into the picture when you do not follow the rules by exceeding weight limits or attempting to dispose of prohibited items in the roll-off. We provide free quotes!

How many portable toilets do I need?

Portable toilets typically serve about 60 people, so if you are expecting more people than that, we recommend you get another one.

Are your portable toilets just for work sites?

No! Portable toilets are great for a wide variety of uses, such as private events, parties, festivals, and weddings. Of course, they are also great for residential and commercial construction projects and landscaping jobs.

How do I prevent a dumpster fire?

Dumpster fires are not common, but they can happen if you are not careful. To prevent a dumpster fire, make sure flammable and explosive items are never thrown into the container. Also, prevent workers from smoking near the dumpster as a tossed partially lit cigarette could accidentally ignite the contents inside a dumpster. As an added precaution, make sure that the container is not up against a building or home. If the waste removal container does ignite, this will help prevent it from spreading.
